MEYTAL The Palladium Worcester, Massachusetts January 23, 2016 Photos & Review by Dan Wenc Meytal Cohen is out on the road touring the United States with her band MEYTAL along with Halcyon Way as a supporting band for Queensryche’s 2016 Condition Human tour. Unfortunately I did not make it to the show in time to catch Halcyon Way.  Despite a snowstorm that covered most of the northeast that night, fans showed up and filled the Palladium in Worcester. Meytal is a high energy band, and they sounded amazing that night. The band ripped through an amazing eight song set list that kept the crowd going theRead More →

HINDER January 13, 2016 Toads Place New Haven, CT May of 2015 Hinder released their latest album, “When The Smoke Clears” and on Wednesday night they stopped in at Toad’s Place to play a few tunes and they brought a few friends with them. Supporting them on this tour is a band from Baltimore called Revolve, Alabama’s Within Reason and from Missouri, Shaman’s Harvest. I have to say this is one of the few times I have actually liked all the bands that were opening, all them sounded great. The lights went down and the noise from the crowd went up as Joe ‘Blower’ GarveyRead More →

L.A. GUNS December 9, 2015 Manchester 65 West Warwick, Rhode Island One of the bands to come out of Los Angeles in the 80s was LA Guns, a hard rock band with just a twinge of sleaze to their sound and look. Not quite like a couple of other bands that were coming out of LA at that time, one of the reasons that I bought their first albums in 88, and on this night I was heading out to Rhode Island to catch these guys in concert. Like most bands from my era, yes I am old, there has been a lineup change orRead More →

December 9, 2015 Ridgefield Playhouse Ridgefield, CT There are a few things that are a traditions this time of year. Houses emblazoned with festive lights, Christmas Tree vendors on every corner, Salvation Army bell ringers at every store, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on TV and Christmas music. And speaking of Christmas Music… There is a group of Progressive Rock Musicians from around here in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area that have banded together to perform their own and renderings of classic Christmas songs in a style very similar to Trans Siberian Orchestra. Wizards of Winter started as the brainchild of ScottRead More →

Lita Ford Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den November 27, 2015 The Wolf Den is a small venue that holds maybe 300 or so people and the concerts they have are free. Artists such as Eddie Money, Vince Neil, Blue Oyster Cult and many more have played on this stage. This night, I was there to see one of the Maidens of Metal, Lita Ford. Lita has become a regular here, performing at least once a year for the last 3 or 4 that I remember, and just like every other time i have been here to see her, there was a long line of fans waitingRead More →

November 22, 2015 WOW! Once again, I am gracing the streets of Stafford Springs with my presence, out searching for another great night of metal. One I found at the Stafford Palace, where the venerable thrash band Exodus was paying a visit between dates opening for King Diamond. Exodus had the privilege of supporting King Diamond on his North American tour and after a successful three night stand in New York City they had an off night on that tour before hitting Boston. Not ones to sit around and do nothing between shows, they stopped in the quiet corner of Connecticut. It was time forRead More →

It was a long dark and rainy drive to the Ridgefield Playhouse thursday night and I was on my way there to see another show. This evening it was Whitford/St. Holmes. Whitford / St. Holmes consists of Brad Whitford who is best known for being a guitarist in Aerosmith and Derek St. Holmes who is best known for his vocals and guitar work for Ted Nugent, backing them up is Troy Luccketta, Tesla’s drummer, bassist Chopper Anderson and Buck Johnson on keyboards. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect that evening. Was it going to be a few songs from their one album from 1981?Read More →

November 13, 2015 New Haven did not survive Friday the 13th unscathed. They were invaded by the intergalactic Scumdogs of the Universe known as Gwar, where carnage and blood filled the place called Toads Place. Fantastic stage presence and a great sound that was for me augmented by the fact they actually seemed to be having a good time with a crowd that was very receptive to them. But I can’t deny the fact the crowd was there for only one thing and that was to be accosted by Gwar. A sea of white T-Shirts ready to be sacrificed to the fountains of fake bloodRead More →

November 5, 2015 Stafford Springs, once again I walked your streets to stand in a line for another show at what is fast becoming Connecticut’s best destination for Metal Shows, The Stafford Palace Theater, that night it was for the killer combination of The Butcher Babies opening for the Swedish band Amaranthe. Standing in line, I was listening to people talk about both bands, fans from all over Connecticut and Massachussetts waiting to hear either the triple threat vocals of Amaranthe or one of the hardest working bands on the circuit right now, the Butcher Babies. Either way everyone was in for a treat thisRead More →
