UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Last year Mohegan Sun decided to move the party to the patio, and I think it was a great decision! This was the first time I have attended a show at The Sun Patio at Mohegan Sun and it won’t be my last. There are similarities between the Sun Patio and the Wolf Den, pretty much standing room only and not many spots to sit, ok the Wolf Den probably has better seating, but you can definitely pack a bigger crowd here and a good sized crowd was filling up the Sun patio tonight.
The rain had stopped earlier in the evening so the stage was dry as the lights went down and the spots started rolling, the band took to the stage. Francis Ruiz headed to the drum kit as guitarists Stevie D and Billy Rowe took their places on the stage, with bassist Kelly LeMieux taking his spot on stage right with Billy.
Josh Todd vocalist and leader of the gang took to center stage an the lights came on as they started the night with the title track of their latest album “Roar Like Thunder” then one of my favorite songs about cocaine, “Lit Up” followed by “So Hott”. I didn’t see any crowd surfers at this show, but then I am sure Mohegan Sun’s Security is very good at keeping it down to a very minimum. They continued on with “Somebody Fucked With Me”, while I worked my way towards the back of the crowd and a refreshment stand. Friday nights I am told they have food trucks here also, they should have one or two for these shows also.
The set continued on with the crowd swaying and singing along, “Onset”, “Ridin’”, “Keep on Fighting”, “Set It Free”, “Say Fuck It”, “Out of Line”, “Come On”, “Gluttony”, “Sorry”, “Good Time”, “Tight Pants”
To close out the set, It was a nice little medley that crowd sang along to and coordinated dance moves by the band during the introductions, I was not expecting that from a rock band like this, it made me smile.
“Crazy Bitch / Sex Machine / Bad Girls / Irresistible Bitch / Proud Mary / Crazy Bitch”
It was a fantastic set, full of energy with just the right amount of banter and songs, the Sun Patio was a perfect place for them, to big for the Wolf Den, just a tad to small for the Arena, I think The Dome at Oakdale has some serious competition during the summer.
