After playing in front of thousands of people in Mansfield, Massachusetts at the Xfinity Center the night before, Stone Sour came to the Mohegan Sun’s Wolf’s Den to play in front of a couple hundred people in a more intimate setting at the center of the Mohegan Sun Casino. It was quite a treat to see such a big band play a small venue. This show was supposed to be an acoustic performance but Stone Sour decided to do a regular show which included sparking pyro.
Stone Sour hit the stage promptly at 8pm. Opening the set with “Taipei Person/Allah Tea” from their current release entitled “Hydrograd”. Singer Corey Taylor comes out wearing a white Britney Spears and a pink sports jacket. Guitarist Josh Rand was sitting down because he twisted his ankle at a prior show. He was unshaven and wearing a hat and sunglasses, which is not his normal stage attire.
The band’s energy was through the roof, performing song after song with very long little talking in between. They played older songs like “Do me a Favor”, “Absolute Zero” and “Get inside” as well as many new songs off the current “Hydrograd” album. Corey performed “Bother” acoustically by himself as the crowd sang along with him. The set ended with “Through Glass” and then they came out and performed “Made of Scars” and “Fabuless” for an encore.
What a great show! Although a full acoustic performance would have been great, I’m glad they decided to do a full regular performance. Stone Sour is truly one of the best live bands out these days. If you are a fan, I highly recommend seeing them.
