A FEW WORDS WITH LIV SIN:
Inverview by Frank Piercy
May 25, 2017
A few days ago, I was given the opportunity to ask a few questions of Liv Jagrell, the former voice of Sister Sin and the driving force behind a new project, Liv Sin.
Here is what transpired.
Frank: First and foremost, congrats on the new band and the new album. I think it blows anything done by Sister Sin out of the water and a definite rung up on the ladder of your musical evolution.(in my defense, I was not kissing ass, I honestly believe the album “Follow Me” is alot better then the Sister Sin catalog, now back to the interview…. I know this will be probably be the most asked question by the interviewers you have dealt with here in the United States, but I have to ask, when can we expect to see Liv Sin gracing the stages here in the U.S.?
Liv Sin: “Thank you for the kind words on the album! Regarding a U.S. tour, honestly, I don’t know. Currently we are planning a tour in Europe this coming fall. You know, we just released the album and we gotta get out there and play. We really want to come to the U.S. and tour, but it is a major enterprise to make that leap. But you can count on us that we will do everything we can to make it happen! Just make sure to follow us on Facebook, as soon as a tour is confirmed we will post about it there!”
Frank: The new album, “Follow Me” was co-produced by Stefan Kaufmann of Accept and U.D.O. and Fiity Wienhold bassist for U.D.O., how did that come about?
Liv Sin: “Sister Sin toured with UDO a couple of times and we got close friends with Fitty, who always told us he wanted to produce us someday, which never happened. But I remembered that when I was looking for producers, and contacted Fitty who was on board directly.
Frank: For those of us here in the States who may not be familiar with them, can you tell us a little bit about the rest of your band?
Liv Sin: “When I first started the process of getting a band together I already had a drummer in my boyfriend Per. He has previously played on tour with Sister Sin and in a band called Aggressive Chill. My best friend’s husband is Patrick, who plays guitar and wrote the music. He has a background with more rock oriented stuff in the band Viktoria Haze. I found Chris, the other guitarist, on Instagram actually. I wanted one more guitarist who were more of a metal shredder and he has a background in death and black metal. Our bass player Tommie was a recommendation from my friends in Hardcore Superstar. He’s on their crew and has another band called Refuel.
(How cool is that, friends with Hardcore Superstar, now that would be a cool tour, Liv Sin and Hardcore Superstar. If you look around Northeast Rock Review a little bit you will find some pics of HSS, but after you are done reading this.)
Frank: With Sister Sin, you covered some cool tunes, Rolling Stones “Paint It Black”, Motorhead’s “Rock n Roll” (With Doro no less!) and “Make My Day” and on “Follow Me” you cover a song by Fight, Rob Halford’s solo project, “Immortal Sin” with Jyrki from The 69 Eyes, and it is one of my favorite songs on the album, but to my question, what song would you love to cover and who would you want to collaborate with on it?
Liv Sin: That’s a really good question haha! I would love to do a Pantera song one day, any of them actually, and Maha Kali by Dissection. It would be a dream to get to sing with Halford of course, but also Angela Gossow, that would be so cool.
(I am sitting here listening to “Maha Kali” now and it would be interesting with her voice, hmmm maybe Angela and her on that song)
The worst thing about doing interviews, email or live, is coming up with questions that are unique and hopefully asked a lot by other interviewers and I was having a hard time, and to be honest went uncreative on the next two, but they are something I was curious about.
Frank: I am curious about what you’re listening to at the moment, what bands have caught your attention lately?
Liv Sin: “Two bands, a swedish band called Nightrage, very metal, and Beasto Blancoi, which is much more rock n roll, but I really like it!
(Wow something in common with Liv, Beasto Blanco!!!)
And now for my last question
Frank: What album or albums, do you find the most inspirational to you, which gets your creative juices flowing and makes you say “I have to write or play something”
Liv Sin: Almost any Arch Enemy album, “Reinkaos” with Dissection and “Stay Hungry” by Twisted fucking Sister
(Classic Twisted Fuckin Sister, what more can I say, Lord knows it has been an inspiration to many things over my lifetime, but those are stories for another time, and another place……)
Yes I took the easy way and probably most asked questions she has ever had to deal with, but I tell you what I kinda like what I heard of Nightrage.
Well there you have it, a few words from Liv Jagrell of Liv Sin.
I would like to thank her for her time again, and also Dave for setting this up for me.
