UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Three Days Grace absolutely pulverized the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, delivering a show for their “Alienation Tour”, that was less a concert and more a seismic event. It wasn’t just a performance; it was a profound declaration of their enduring legacy, bursting with emotional depth and raw, undeniable power.
The energy was palpable from the moment the doors opened. Although photo access for the support acts was unfortunately restricted, the impact of The Funeral Portrait and I Prevail was undeniable. The Funeral Portrait set the stage with a captivating, theatrical nine-song display that wasn’t just a warm-up, but a statement. Their passion was infectious, perfectly tuning the crowd for the onslaught to come.
Then, I Prevail hit, and it was a revelation. Their set was nothing short of astonishing. Massive riffs, guttural vocals, and pyrotechnics that scorched the air created an atmosphere usually reserved for headliners. They didn’t just play; they ignited the arena, leaving everyone utterly primed and buzzing for the main event.
Exactly at 9:15 p.m., the current titans of Three Days Grace — Adam Gontier and Matt Walst on vocals, Barry Stock on guitar, Brad Walst on bass, and Neil Sanderson on drums, unleashed their fury. Kicking off with “Dominate” from their latest, “Alienation,” they immediately plunged into the iconic “Animal I Have Become.” It was instantly clear, this wasn’t just a tour; it was a comprehensive retrospective.
Their monumental 23-song set was a masterclass, weaving through all eight of their albums, including five compelling tracks from “Alienation.” The seamless blend of their foundational anthems like “Pain” and “I Hate Everything About You” with newer material was brilliant. Long-time fans roared along to classics, embracing the fresh tracks with equal fervor, a testament to the band’s consistent evolution.
A truly remarkable moment unfolded mid-show with an unexpected acoustic interlude. As a campfire prop glowed center stage, the band gathered, transforming the vast arena into an intimate, vulnerable space. This stripped-down segment, featuring heartfelt renditions of “Lost in You” and “Lifetime,” was a poignant showcase for their songwriting prowess, allowing both vocalists to reveal a raw, emotive side that resonated deeply.
The reunion of Adam Gontier and Matt Walst as co-frontmen has proven to be an absolute stroke of genius. Their dynamic synergy added entirely new dimensions to the band’s sound, allowing their extensive catalog to feel both authentically preserved and vibrantly reinterpreted. From blistering new tracks to spine-tingling renditions of “Just Like You” and “The Good Life,” the entire arena was a unified choir.
Clocking in at nearly two hours, Three Days Grace delivered a blistering performance that reaffirmed their status as one of modern rock’s most formidable live acts. They brought the house down just before 11 p.m. with the explosive anthem “Riot,” leaving the crowd on an exhilarating, adrenaline-fueled high.
Seeing Adam Gontier back on stage, his voice as potent and integral as ever, felt monumental. His presence undeniably injects a fresh, powerful dimension into their live show. If this night was any indication, Three Days Grace is not just back; they are stronger, more cohesive, and more electrifying than ever before. I’m already counting the days until their next visit.
