JOHN HALL & FLY AMERO at the Shalin Liu Performance Center, April 5
March 25, 2019
Founder and current member of the pop group Orleans, John Hall joins his longtime bandmate, certified gold singer/songwriter Fly Amero, for an intimate evening of acoustic music packed with famed classic hits, exciting new collaborations and insider tales from the “ghosts” of music industry past.
As founder of the classic group Orleans and the seminal No Nukes concerts of the ‘70s, songwriter, author and former U.S. congressman John Hall has placed his own permanent stamp on contemporary pop culture’s history in so very many ways. Early on, already boasting an extensive list of luminary achievements, Hall wrote and directed the music for the 1968 Broadway show Morning, Noon and Night, 1969’s Obie-winning Honest to God Schnozzola and the guitar-driven “Half Moon” recorded by Janis Joplin on her final album Pearl. John later penned songs for Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Ricky Skaggs, James Taylor and many more. And of course his classic hits, “Still The One” and “Dance With Me” will simply live forever. On any stage in the world, you can count on John to share stories from his illustrious past, many of which are featured in his memoir, “STILL THE ONE: A Rock’n’Roll Journey to Congress and Back.”
Certified gold recording artist and journeyman Fly Amero embraces each and every audience with passion and intimacy. Touring for the past 13 years as a member of the classic American pop group Orleans, Fly draws from a lifetime of rootsy Americana, folk, blues and jazz influences… and his well-seasoned guitar and vocal skills serve to deliver emotional works like “Paint It Blue”, “I Am” and “I Don’t Know Where I End (and You Begin)” deep into the hearts of listeners everywhere. For decades, music has taken Amero around the globe, sharing stages with a wide range of artists including Wilson Pickett, Tom Rush, The Pointer Sisters, Dolly Parton, Christopher Cross, Al Stewart, Little Feat, The Guess Who, Firefall, Little River Band, Ambrosia and more. These days, Fly’s live acoustic performances are in support of his most recent solo effort Beautiful World, the title song being Orleans’ newest release, and one of two collaborations on the album with writing partner John Hall.
Opening is Liz Frame. From the compelling voice of Boston-based singer-songwriter Liz Frame comes honest, unbridled Americana, reflective of the heartland heroes she was weaned on— immortal artists like Jimmie Rogers, The Weavers, Elvis and more. “This woman writes great songs and has the pipes to deliver them…” — Elmore Magazine
